A +1k word essay I wrote on an hour while crying on bed 3 years ago as to why I don't like how Gina was written in DGS2/TGAA2. For reference, it usually takes me ~4 days to writte 1k words on any subject. My Gina brainrot was that bad. Also all names are the JP ones, since TGAA wasn't a thing back them. Pics are blurry too because that's all we had.
Posting here since I deleted my Tumblr, I don't want to lose this essay. Revised grammar a bit.
[SPOILERS FOR BOTH DGS/TGAA GAMES]

I was kinda angry at DGS 2’s portrayal of Gina & for the most time I thought it was because they made her entire character resolve around Gregson, but now I have just realised that it wasn't just Gregson; what I was angry about is how they pretty much erased her bond with the other characters.
I was so happy when I saw how she grew up, got a dog, a job, another person she trusts and how happy she was!!
But then… they kinda forgot about everything else…?

Her bond with Susato was very important! She spent the whole DGC1-5 talking of herself as a liar, and rejecting Ryuunosuke as her attorney because she couldn’t understand how someone could trust someone like her. And you know what was the only thing that made her change her mind? Susato.
Gina came out a bit from her shell, started to learn how to trust others, accepted Ryuu as her attorney & could be found not guilty of a murder thanks to that. It all was posible because before her departure, Susato went out of her way to visit Gina and told her that there were people she could trust, that she isn't the bad person she thinks of herself, and that she didn’t wanted to depart from London with the memory of Gina and Iris being sad; her words were the only thing that made Gina change her opinion. She did not trusted anyone prior 1-5 (and even on it, she has a hard time trusting anyone) and the second Susato tells her to trust her, she does it (also Gina looked so upset when she learnt that susato was leaving London!!).

Susato was so worried about Gina’s well-being that she tampered with a crime scene, something she swore she would never do. And on the morning of her trial, the first thing Gina does is ask where Susato was!!
(On another note, there was a scene where Sherlock says that he heard Gina talking about how excited she was for trying the breakfast Susato made. It isn't shown what she says exactly, but it was enough excitement to convince Sherlock that Gina didn't returned to her house during that night. Just thought that was cute ówò Specially considering Gina barely shows sincere emotions when other people are present).
The only reason Gina is where she is today, the reason why she started to trust people and started to think about changing her way of life is because of Susato!!

And Iris!!
Her relationship with her shows how much she cares about others even if she tries to hide it. She unknowingly stole one of Iris’ guns, which lead to Iris trying to approach her when she found her outside to get it back & forcing her come over her house to dine and to make her apologise for stealing her gun.
On 1-5 instead, Gina actually showing up on her own free will at Iris’s home for dinner when Iris invited her. Here, apart from a very cute scene where she taught the rest of the 221b family how to pickpocket; she had the first “normal” talk with Iris; in which she learned about her father and manuscript.
Just hearing about that once was enough to Gina for sneaking out of their house at midnight to go to the paw shop (where then she almost lost her life) and threatened the owner with a gun to open the basement to check if Sherlock really saved the manuscript here. All because she was so angry that after Iris’ biological father abandoned her, her adoptive one could be lying to her; she needed to make sure the person taking care of iris was good and she risked her life for that.

Also she became an inspector in DGS 2 because she promised Iris she was gonna find her biological father and give her justice!! This was mentioned once in DGS 2, but was treated as a joke…..
But she had anoother reason, it was because she wanted to help the rest of orphan children to have better lives!! That was such a heartfelt wish and I’m so sad they never mentioned it in DGS 2. She was learning to trust people! She cares a lot about other people even if she tries to hide it! And they never address after DGS….
She spent the entirety of DGS learning how to trust, how to not hate herself about her mistakes, showing affection in her own ways, finding a little family and a new career… and I’m so sad that DGS 2 doesn't acknowledge almost anything of that.

They just made Gregson the reason of her being & called it a day. It makes sense (specially considering she probably has AVPD) that she is very fixated onto him, but the whole "i will continue being a detective because he died"? That's worng, she became an inspector for Iris’ and the orphan children sake! Gregson came later! He didn't even give her the job or Toby.
She was included on the ending scene of DGS 2 (something i'm very glad of) where they are all dining, but they treated her promise to Iris as a joke and forgot about everything. Her relationship with Iris? A joke. Her resolve? A joke. They did her so badly

Im happy that they gave her a father-ish figure, it's so cute that he ended up caring about her after some time, I'm glad she was very happy (even if it was just for one case, they crushed her soul in the next one) and had a job, a pet and learnt how to read. But I hate how DGS 2 ignores the grow she had in the previous and how her bonding with the other characters (mostly Susato and Iris) is what affected her the most in who she is today.
Another thing that bugs me A LOT about DGS2 Gina is that she would never join Scotland Yard honestly?? Why would she join the people who failed her, her whole community & who also incarcerated her?
She wanted to change to help her community (mostly w bringing clean money & food to the kids) and to find Iris’ father (and kill him), and you know what would be a more in-character solution?

She could join/work like Sherlock!! That way, she would do the same work as in Scotland Yard, get money, investigate & all without the unnecessary drama they gave her in DGS2 & without being connected with the police!!
Also the 221b family eere the 1st people Gina started to open up a bit to! So who is better to guide her in her new life than the dad of the family (who she also made sure was trustworthy back in DGS1) who cares about her a lot??
I mean, in DGS2 he was the one who made the arrangements so Gina could work in Scotland. Also if she worked as a independent detective, Iris could join her a lot with no problem!! Sister bonding!!

TLDR: I get Gina better than Capcom, also Me @ dgs2:
